The Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Home & Cultural Affairs, Bhutan have been observing the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction every year since 2008 in close collaboration with Schools and communities raise awareness on DRR, creating social responsibility and mobilization of general public to get involved and take ownership of the future Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives.

This year too, the day will be observed in Punakha Dzongkhag.

The celebration will be graced by Dasho Dzongdag (Governor) of Punakha Dzongkhag. They day will be celebrated with series of programs such as:

i. Experience/Lesson sharing by the community – have more than 50 communities participate during the day with equal representation of old age.

ii. There will be quiz competition amongst the higher and middle secondary schools under Punakha Dzongkhag

iii. Presentation of short skit and speech related to Disaster Risk Reduction by schools under Punakha Dzongkhag.

Certificates and prizes will also be awarded to the winning and participating schools.
