Causes of sea level rise: what the science tells us
This paper addresses the immense efforts required to meet the challenge of rising seas and coastal storm surges so as to build the resilience of coastal communities and the need to make ambitious cuts in heat-trapping emissions in order to slow the pace and magnitude of change in sea level and gain time to plan and prepare for its effects. It describes: (i) what is causing sea level rise; (ii) measuring and projecting global sea level rise; (iii) how sea level rise affects coasts though storm surges, erosion and flood; and (iv) responding to sea level rise - choices, opportunities and risks.
