USA: Preparing utilities for a changing climate
Conservation Associate Fay Augustyn reports that some water utilities have been at the forefront of recognizing the impacts of climate change and the need to adapt, but unfortunately, many others are not planning for these and future impacts of climate change. While it is challenging to determine what very specific impacts and risk, she calls for individual utilities to plan and identify what exact strategies they can use to help minimize and adapt to the risks of the “new normal.” Augustyn says that there are some good tools available to start the planning process, and highlights examples from a recent Environmental Protection Agency 'Adaptation Strategies Guide.'
