Australia: Flood plan needed to stem tide

In the wake of the recent Queensland floods, a debate has emerged about how to avoid future flood related damage, reports The Telegraph. According to Chas Keys, an Honorary Associate of Risk Frontiers (Macquarie University) and author of Making Communities Safer in Times of Flood, "very little flood mapping was done", and urban development on floodplains was not discouraged. Thus, flood damage costs have risen significantly in the past few decades.
