Viet Nam: Scientists want climate plans changed

Source(s): VietNamNet Newspaper

Dr Duong Van Ni of Can Tho University has urged authorites to adopt approaches specific to each region of southern Viet Nam, because the impact of climate change varies from area to area. He has also encouraged authorities to collaborate and exchange information on water levels and other specific data, reports Viet Nam Net.

Dr Duong's call comes shortly after the announcement that the European Union committed 4.95 million euros (US$6 million) to the Mekong River Commission (MRC) for the Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (CCAI) until 2015. The programme will assess the effects of climate change and integrate adaptation planning at the regional, national and community levels.
