Sendai dialogue: Special event on mainstreaming disaster risk management for sustainable development

As part of the programs of the 67th IMF-World Bank group annual meetings, the Ministry of Finance of Japan and the World Bank are co-hosting a special event, Sendai dialogue, in Sendai , the largest city in the disaster-affected Tohoku area, to highlight the imperative of integrating disaster risk management in development policy, institutions and investments.

This dialogue, to which ministers and senior officials of finance ministries and those who are engaged in development policy and disaster risk management are invited, is also aimed at sharing experiences and lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami as well as the recovery and reconstruction from this disaster, with the international community to reinforce the priority of disaster risk management in development policy and planning of the developing countries. In addition, a field visit to disaster-affected area is planned for high-level participants to look at the disaster recovery in Japan .

The Government of Japan and the World Bank are jointly undertaking a collaborative research on disaster risk management, recovery and reconstruction. The main outcomes of this joint study will also be presented at Sendai Dialogue.
