Rio+20 Side Event: DRR is widely identified as a critical issue in Rio+20. It is in this connection that a number of Rio+20 side events related to reducing risk and strengthening resilience are being organized by Governments, UN system, Major Groups and IGOs.

UNISDR together with partners- ICLEI, UCLG, IFRC, UN Habitat , the Permanent Missions of Australia, Indonesia, Peru, Norway and Mexico to the United Nations and the European Commission, is organizing an important dialogue

The dialogue will also serve as platform to discuss further the applicability of the checklist of “10 essentials” as a contribution to advance the implementation and monitoring of actions, particularly in the area of sustainable cities and disaster risk reduction, as part of the outcome of Rio+20. Furthermore, the event is expected to strengthen the commitment and increase awareness of different stakeholders to support the initiative of making cities safe and resilient for sustainable development. One concrete outcome of the event will be launching of an Interactive Web-resource of Good Practices to facilitate further replication among cities around the world.
