Opinion from the Philippines: Are we ready for a disaster?

Source(s): Philstar.com, The Star Group of Publications

In his opinion piece in the PhilStar, Babe Romualdez argues that the Philippines is not prepared for a major earthquake. He recalls his conversation with Senator Loren Legarda and UN Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction Margareta Wahlström in which he suggested a legislation to encourage media companies to regularly engage in educating the public on disaster preparedness measures for earthquakes. He warns: “There is nothing like knowledge and information to help one prepare for disasters” And adds: “We need to be ready because disaster will strike — it’s only a question of when.”
