Bangladesh: Three years after cyclone Aila
'Cyclone Aila was an act of God. So how can we blame God?'
Ben Spencer of The Star reports on the livelihood improvements that have been achieved with the help of Christian Aid in Bangladesh three years after cyclone Aila’s devastation. The number of deaths caused by the 2009 cyclone was significantly lower than that of 1991’s, due to the early warning system and the cyclone shelters that had been put into place. However, the losses to the economy and infrastructure were huge and as an effect of climate change, floods and cyclones are hitting the country more and more often.
