France urges tougher nuclear rules

Facing higher resistance to nuclear power after the Japanese disaster this year, French officials said Monday they would seek to promote stronger international policies on nuclear energy, reports the Wall Street Journal. The Journal also mentions a statement in which IAEA recently endorsed a series of new proposals, including a global emergency preparedness and response system and a series of a random inspections of nuclear plants overseen by the IAEA.
