Pakistan would like to 'build back better' but will need international assistance, a top official stated in Bangkok this week.

"we would certainly hope that international community would... come up up with the requisite resource level required to help those people who have been deeply affected," said Pakistan's Ambassador to Thailand, Sohail Mahmood on the International Day for Disaster Reduction.

"It's important to keep in mind that disasters cannot be prevented but better preparedness can help reduce the damage and mitigate the worst impact,"

According to the news agency Reuters, aid workers have stressed that integrating an awareness of disaster risk reduction and programmes into the reconstruction effort is crucial to reduce the vulnerability of the country.
