Viet Nam: Businesses pledge to help deal with 'natural' disasters

Source(s): Voice of Vietnam News Agency

Businesses in the southern province of An Giang are committed to working with the State to minimise any damage caused by natural disasters.

They made the commitment at a conference held by the An Giang Provincial People's Committee on 1 June 2010. The businesses will also donate money and work with the province's Steering Committees for Storm and Flood Prevention and Search and Rescue to erect more posters to raise public awareness on storm and flood prevention.

The province put into action in its An Phu and Chau Thanh districts and Tan Chau township the fourth component of the flood management programme in 2008, which was jointly organised by the International Mekong Delta Committee, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre and the Vietnam National Mekong Committee. The section aimed to provide crucial training on survival skills for teachers and pupils in the flooded areas, upgrade childcare centres, and improve capacity for the province's administrative agencies.
