Second ministerial conference on disaster risk reduction in Africa
The African Union Commission in collaboration with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) are holding the Second African Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenya on 16 April 2010. The technical segment of this Ministerial Conference will take place on 14 and 15 April 2010 at the same venue. This conference will be held parallel to the First Conference of Ministers responsible for meteorology in Africa, organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in conjunction with the African Union Commission.
The objectives of the conference on disaster risk reduction and its technical segment include:
- To discuss and adopt the extended Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Africa Regional Strategy for disaster risk reduction, period 2006-2015,
- To define a regional mechanism and the resources to coordinate, support and monitor the implementation of the Africa Strategy and Programme of Action for disaster risk reduction, period 2006-2010, and
- To link the outcomes of the COP 15 to the extended Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Africa Regional Strategy for disaster risk reduction, period 2006-2015.
This meeting also includes a plenary presentation on the Mid-Term Review process and a discussion of the Key Questions.
