Official Statements

Official Statement registration is open until Friday 17 May 2013. Delegations are invited to provide three-minute official statements at allotted times in the plenary segments. Please see the guidance below.

Who can make a statement?

All delegations can submit an official delegation statement. Only registered and confirmed candidates can log into the system to submit the request on behalf of their delegation. If you are submitting a request on behalf of a confirmed delegate, please enter his/her email address used to register for the Global Platform.

How can I make a statement?

Statements are of two types - written and oral. All delegations can submit written statements. All government delegations can make oral statements at the Global Platform event. Other delegations can submit a request to make an oral statement, but time slots are limited and we may not be able to accommodate every request. We encourage you to submit a written statement.

Statements are public

All statements, whether written or oral, will be distributed widely. In addition to being available to the public on this website, your statement can also distributed to the media in your country. When you submit your request to make a statement, you can also indicate up to 5 media or communication contacts (name, email address). After the statement is published, these media contacts will receive an email with a link to your official delegation statement (written, or video if an oral statement is delivered at the Global Platform). You can always log into the system to update the media contacts.

Guidance on the format for Official Statements

Plenary Statements should be of 700 words maximum.

Please consider addressing the following in your statement:

  1. Progress since the 2011 Global Platform Chair's Summary and disaster risk reduction plans toward 2015. See: http://preventionweb.net/go/19947
  2. Main elements for a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2). You may want to refer to the April 2013 Synthesis Report: Consultations on a Post-2015 Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction for background. See http://preventionweb.net/go/32535

Submit your request now

We are currently accepting requests for official statements. The online registration system for one official statement per delegation provides slots on a first come first serve basis until all slots are filled.

All delegations that have previously submitted a request can always log back in to make changes (e.g. updating the statement attachment, changing the speaker for oral statements, adding or updating media contacts). The list of speakers will be available on this website two weeks prior to the Global Platform.

Any confirmed member of the delegation can submit the request on behalf of the delegation. If you are submitting on behalf of a confirmed delegate, please enter his/her email address used to register for the Global Platform.
