ORGANIZER(S): United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction – Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (UNDRR AM)
Type: Meeting or Conference Date: 24 Feb 2021 Location: Online event
In the Americas and the Caribbean, sustainable development is linked to the development of their cities. In an urban region, cities are the scenario of a disaster risk that acquires new dimensions, shapes and sizes. The interconnection between risks is increasing and the complex interrelationships between urban systems require thinking about the development of cities from the perspective of resilience.
MCR2030 drives technical capacity building, connects multiple levels of government and promotes strategic partnerships on a global scale. Simultaneously, it fosters the creation of a regional structure in which actors with strong ties and experience in implementing disaster risk reduction actions connect with cities that are making progress in strengthening their resilience.
The regional launch for the Americas and the Caribbean of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) campaign is a space to share the experiences and knowledge of strategic actors for strengthening urban resilience in our region and drives the understanding of resilience as comprehensive and integrative approach that leads sustainable urban development.
