HOST(S): National Resilience Council (NRC)
Type: Meeting or Conference Date: 30 Oct 2020 Location: Online event
The National Resilience Council (NRC), by virtue of its mandate and vision, engages local government units in the Philippines in making climate and disaster resilience their priority. Its work is focused on building dynamic multi-stakeholder collaboration through the following: the development of science and technology-based solutions that reduce disaster risk; enhancing internal capacities of local governments to lead through evidence-informed risk governance; and strengthening and sustaining high-level collaboration between government and industry.
One of the ways by which these are achieved is through NRC’s flagship program, the Resilient Local Government Units Program, which aims to bridge critical gaps between science, policy, and practice. This three-year two-track (Leadership & Governance and Science & Technology) program, which was cited as one of the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments’ good practices, highlights the Prepare, Adapt, and Transform phases of resilience-building through trans-disciplinary knowledge development and the co-ownership and co-creation of contextualized solutions to resilience challenges.
In this regard, the NRC Colloquium 2020: Pathways and Milestones in Building Local Resilience will be held on October 30, 2020 to officially mark the transition of NRC’s local government partners from the Year 1 PREPARE Phase of the program to the Year 2 ADAPT Phase. It will be an opportunity for local chief executives and their respective local Resilience Councils to report on their accomplishments and milestones relative to resilience-building and share a narrative of their personal leadership journeys.
The NRC is principally supported by the Philippines’ leading conglomerates; thus, it is also the lead implementing partner of the UNDRR’s Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) Philippines.
