Institutionalising sustainable Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) is one of the community-based key strategies to prepare for hazards and respond to disasters which can be sustained for a long time, and becomes a practice for other related institutions. It focuses on reducing the human impact on natural hazards with support from local civil society, communities, households and individuals, to become less vulnerable. Thus, preparedness can be done by strengthening their capacity to anticipate and cope with disasters.

Objective

The objective is to enable participants to

  1. Learn the meaning of important terms and their application in real life scenarios;

  2. Hone the capacities and increase knowledge on CBDRM;

  3. Identify the successes and barriers of CBDRM processes and derive ways of institutionalizing them and making them sustainable.

Prospective participants

  1. Local CSOs;

  2. DRR Practitioners.

Methodology

The training methodology uses a face to face learning approach by experienced practitioners. The presentations by experts as well as through group work will include active participation with thinking points and small tasks. This will stimulate introspection, and help in understanding the engagement of key stakeholders. On completion of the training, each participant will be able to implement the learnings and will be certified from SEEDS Learning Academy.
