Venue
Auditorium - Institute of Local Government Organization Studies (ILGS) – Madina.
Date

As part of GAYO’s activities to celebrate this years’ International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR), GAYO in partnership with Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is collaborating with the Africa Youth Advisory Board for Disaster Risk Reduction (AfYAB DRR) under the Africa Union Commission (AUC), to organize a Quiz competition among four Senior High Schools in Ghana.

The Quiz is supported by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) regional office in Africa.

About the Event

Flood and drought risk in Ghana is increasingly rendering communities vulnerable and knocking people into poverty. Young people have a role to play and we want to build their capacity to become implementers of DRR measures in Ghana.

The quiz will be a healthy competition that will test students’ knowledge on the concepts on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), the Global Framework (Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction – SFDRR) and Regional Frameworks (Programme of Action – PoA) in DRR. It will also show the linkage of DRR to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The aim of the Quiz is to:

  •    Empower young people with the principles of #DRR in order for them to take action.
  •    Educate at least an expected 200 young people or audience on the SFDRR, PoA and their connection to the #SDGs.

The quiz will bring together four (4) mixed-gender senior high school in Ghana and is expected to attract over 200 participants.
