These training courses provide theoretical fundamentals and practical training in applied seismology, for geoscientists and engineers from earthquake-prone developing countries.

The program is particularly useful for seismological station and network operators, data interpreters and those concerned with seismic zoning and hazard assessment. These postgraduate courses are part of the educational and training program of GFZ Potsdam, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, UNESCO, and UNISDR in the field of geosciences and disaster mitigation.

The 4-week training course for 2019 will take place in Germany at GFZ Potsdam, from August 12 to September 6. We invite young scientists and engineers from developing countries to apply to the course. The course circular, scientific programme and application form for the 2019 course can be downloaded from the web page. Deadline for application is April 26, 2019.

Starting with this year, there is an important extension for further qualification available. Former course participants can apply for additional support from the International Training Course by submitting a project proposal. The proposed project can be connected to new measurements, or to analyse older data, or it can involve a specialised training at the GFZ. The target of the proposal has to be related to the topics of the International Training Course.
