Webinar: Multidisciplinary Curriculum Need for Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development

Organizer(s) Asian Institute of Technology - Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management Program
Date

Time: 13.00 – 14.00hrs (Bangkok Time)

The “sharing of resources and knowledge” and “mutual learning” approaches are important ingredients of success. The experience from actual disasters reflected in the disaster risk reduction (DRR) education process should not be limited to teaching evacuation drills, which does not involve a comprehensive understanding of hazards, preparation for disaster situations, and reconstruction of communities as a sustainable process. Education directly relates to one goal (SDG 4) but cuts across all 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs).

There has been growing international recognition of education for sustainable development as an integral element of quality education and a key enabler of sustainable development. The substantial inclusion of education for sustainable development in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides strong support for scaling up education for sustainable development action in the coming years. The unique amalgamation of disaster resilience and sustainable development educators in Asian region is vital in order to develop a cross cutting education system, particularly in vulnerable regions.

This webinar will highlight the very need of multidisciplinary approach for disaster resilience and sustainable development, in the common pursuit of Education 2030: Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action: Towards Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and Lifelong Learning for All (UNESCO 2015).
