The University of Bristol, University of East Anglia and the Instituto Geológico, Minero y Metalúrgico (INGEMMET) of Peru are jointly organising a Newton-Paulet Researcher Links Workshop which will take place in Peru in October 2018.
The workshop will explore multidisciplinary approaches to mitigating the impacts of damaging intense flash floods, known locally as ‘huaycos’, through a series of participatory exercises and field visits.
We invite Early Career Researcher participants from the UK and Peru to apply for fully-funded places. We welcome applications from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, including, but not limited to, physical scientists and engineers with interests in flooding, hazard modelling, early-warning systems, engineered mitigation to natural hazards; social scientists interested in risk governance at national and regional level, adaptation to climate change or conducting participatory action research in communities; disaster risk reduction practitioners based in NGOs (Peruvian and international).
Full details and an application form are available at the workshop website www.huaycoworkshop2018.simplesite.com
Deadline for applications is 15th August 2018.
