Zilient Live: Reinventing islands as living labs for resilience

Organizer(s) Zilient
Date

Since the Caribbean was hit by two top-strength hurricanes last September, causing death and destruction, the region’s island nations and territories have struggled to get back on their feet.

The disaster brought into sharp focus the risks they face from extreme weather and other climate change impacts. But it also highlighted opportunities for them to become stronger in the face of growing pressures, and develop in a smarter and more sustainable way.

In the week of July 23, Zilient will run an in-depth series on some of the solutions islands are testing out to resolve the challenges they must get to grips with, both now and in the future – from storms and degrading ecosystems to mass tourism and migration.

Join our discussion on July 25 at 11am EDT to find out how islands can become more resilient by building back better after disasters, using digital technology, switching to renewable energy and protecting their natural resources.

Panel:

  • Kate Brown, Executive Director, Global Island Partnership
  • Axel de Vries, Manager for Advisory Services, EY Dutch Caribbean
  • Angela Burnett, Author, The Irma Diaries

Moderator: Megan Rowling, Zilient.org editor & Thomson Reuters Foundation journalist

Please register for the webinar on Zoom, where you can also submit a question for the panel in advance.

The event will also be broadcast live on Zilient's Facebook page.
