The Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) is pleased to open registration for our Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response Summer Institute 2018. These free-of-charge courses aim to contract a global teaching platform for people who are interested in researching or practicing in the field of disaster and medical humanitarian response. The course faculty is experienced in humanitarian training and has research and on-the-ground experience in disaster settings. More information and links to register can be found below.

POPG 5006 Disaster and Humanitarian Crisis (19-22 June)

This course offers an overview of the disaster management cycle and the public health and medical implications of disaster and humanitarian crisis. It aims to show how public health principles may be applied in disaster relief and how evidence-based health related humanitarian actions can be planned, implemented and evaluated.

POPG 5014 Research Methodology for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (23 June, 3-4 July)

Participants will understand the principles of planning, implementing, and disseminating research in the context of disaster and humanitarian settings. It aims to show how public health and research principles can be applied.

POPG 5013 Global Health Perspectives of Humanitarian Crisis & Human Security (5-7, 9 July)

Through various real-life case studies and practical applications, this course will provide participants with an understanding of how the human security and health security concepts are applied in public health practices, especially under emergencies and disasters.

Who can apply?

Students, researchers, government officials, NGO workers and others who are interested in disaster and medical humanitarian response as well as fulfilling the following requirements:

  • Bachelor degree holders of all disciplines
  • Competent in English (The course will be taught in English with interactive discussion throughout the lectures)

Submit the online application form before 30 April 2018. Please note that registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis and early registration is strongly encouraged.
