Within the context of the implementation of target (b) of the Sendai Framework (Seven Sendai), the Egyptian National Platform for DRR in cooperation with a local government (Minia Governorate) organized a field exercise to address risks of flash floods in order to reduce number of affected people and the risks of displacement due to disasters.

The specific objective of the exercise includes enhancing and improving disaster preparedness and response capabilities, developing risk management plans and enhancing a participatory approach in managing flash flood risks and raising public awareness of local communities on how to act safely and make locations more resilient to disasters.

In this regard, the Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Sector (national focal point for DRR and technical secretariat for the National Platform) at the Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center, in collaboration with Minia Governorate, implemented the field exercise as a part of Egyptian activities in the International Day for Disaster Reduction 2017 and within context of the updated Egyptian National Strategy for DRR.

Hundreds of involved participants on both national and local levels have participated in the breakdown activities of the field exercise.

A short movie was developed to document the whole activity and to be as guidance for enhancing preparedness and response capacities.
