Organizer(s) Gravitazz Institute for Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management
Date
-

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR) is a 15-year, voluntary, non-binding instrument which recognizes that the State has the primary role to reduce disaster risk but that the responsibility should be shared with other stakeholders including local governments, the private sector, international ogranisations and others. SFDRR aims at “the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries”.

About the workshop

The Gravitazz Sendai Workshops is a string of workshops organised by Gravitazz Institute for Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management. The workshops target Sub-Saharan African countries and aim at supporting country stakeholders in integrating the SFDRR into their national policies and programmes.

The workshop will allow participants to:

  • Receive a practical understanding of the SFDRR and related instruments (e.g. 2016 Mauritius Programme of Action, African Union Strategy for DRR);

  • Reflect on national policies, framework and strategies, and how they can be effectively aligned to the SFDRR in order to achieve the goals and targets set for 2030;

  • Learn about the importance of data and monitoring of the Sendai targets through relevant existing indicators; Highlight the links between the SFDRR and other global instruments and frameworks related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to Climate Change Adaptation

Recognizing the importance of the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, this edition of the Workshop will focus on the Lessons Learned from this high-level event.
