The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in partnership with UNISDR has selected Burundi to launch the national discussion process on HFA implementation and post-HFA in Central Africa. This consultative process aims to arrive at a common position of states and contribute to the preparation of a synthesis report of the Africa on the Post-2015 that will be presented to the Global Platform in Geneva in May 2013.

The consultation was carried out in two complementary phases:

  •  Meeting with key sectoral ministries, the media and some development partners;
  •  The evaluation meeting with the general national platform for disaster risk reduction.

Key messages for post-2015 include:

  • The HFA has not been sufficiently popularized and therefore unknown to the majority of players. Future framework should focus on its dissimination as well as training for its implementation, its evaluation and interpretation.
  • Responsibilities of the National Platform on DRR for the future framework should focus on capacity building for dialogue and coordination of national and sectoral players, in close linkage with the country's economic challenges. Financial partners should play a leading role.
