2012 IEEE international geoscience and remote sensing symposium
The symposium will be looking into the latest results provided by Earth observation satellites from ESA, DLR and other space agencies from around the world. The contributions that ESA and DLR radar satellites have made to our understanding of Earth and climate change over the last 15 years will be emphasised. Future satellite missions will also be highlighted. Other topics include the dynamics of Earth processes and the measurement of soil moisture and ocean salinity from space. Hurricanes, extreme weather, vegetation, oceans. New applications for remotely sensed data on tropical cyclones and extreme weather, vegetation change and ocean surface winds and currents will be explored.
An afternoon will be dedicated to the achievements of 10 years of data from ESA’s Envisat mission, the largest Earth observation satellite ever built. In addition, sessions will be devoted to the services being developed for Europe’s future Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) programme and to the family of Sentinel missions and their potential scientific exploitation.
