Recognizing the relevance of land use planning as an effective tool for disaster risk reduction, the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), in partnership with the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI), is offering a specialized distance learning course on Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning on 1 August - 1 September 2011.

This month-long course presents a general background on trends and experiences in mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in land use planning. It provides a detailed discussion on land use planning options and techniques, explains the process of integrating disaster risk reduction parameters in local land use planning, and illustrates the benefits of this integrated approach using actual examples from both global and local perspectives.

This course is part of the Natural Disaster Risk Management Program (NDRMP) which is being offered globally by EMI and GFDRR.
