Access to relevant and usable knowledge is an important prerequisite for successful and cost-effective adaptation actions. The Cancun Adaptation Framework identifies the strengthening of knowledge systems and sharing of knowledge as one of the areas of work where action must be enhanced.

To contribute to the mobilization of knowledge in support of adaptation actions, UNEP with partners initiated in 2010 the organization of events known as Adaptation Knowledge Days. The overall goal of these events is to strengthen the sharing of knowledge on adaptation through the promotion and showcasing of innovative adaptation research, policies and actions.
