360 video: Landslide early warning systems in Peru

This 360-degree video allows you to explore the landslide early warning systems installed by Practical Action in the district of Lurigancho-Chosica in Lima, Peru. The climate monitoring systems help reduce the risks to exposed families, as part of wider efforts to build disaster preparedness and improved emergency response in the area.

The monitoring systems are produced with open source software, 3D printing, and low cost microcomputers, while the stations themselves work with solar energy. Collected data is transmitted online and via a back-up radio frequency receptor, and combined with local community reports to support decision-making. Early warnings are relayed through messages, radios and alerts, which activate the local community response plan.
