Helping Bangladesh better prepare for natural disasters

When it comes to natural disasters, few countries are as exposed as Bangladesh. From floods to cyclones and earthquakes, the country is among the most vulnerable worldwide.

Bangladesh's high population density means a relatively small event can immediately affect a huge population. In a bid to help communities better prepare for these recurring natural hazards, the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Operations supported the creation of the National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiative (NARRI), a consortium which has become central to the country’s Disaster Risk Reduction policies.

Over the past six years, this group of dedicated aid agencies has been working closely with both communities and local authorities to help build a disaster-resilient Bangladesh.
