This declaration by the Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) follows a regional workshop on Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness in Nadi convened by the ACT Alliance and PCC in September 2016. It reaffirms the PCC's commitment to addressing the threat of climate change as a community of Pacific Island Churches and in collaboration with the global fellowship of churches and their ministries.
This statement reaffirms commitment to the following issues:
- The adverse impacts of climate change on the Pacific Islands and its people;
- Climate-induced migration and forced displacement of Pacific Island people as a human rights threat including rights as indigenous land owners;
- National, regional and global climate change and disaster risk reduction policy frameworks;
- Existing climate action initiatives implemented by governments, non-governmental organizations, formal and informal groups, regional and international agencies working in the Pacific Region.
