Jakarta declaration for the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (HABITAT III)

This declaration, entitled "Sustainable Urbanization to Accelerate Development", was adopted by the representatives of national government, local and regional authorities, intergovernmental organizations, United Nations agencies, professionals and academia, private sector, civil society organizations, women, children and youth, participating in the Habitat III Asia Regional Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on 22 October 2015.

The declaration takes into account the recent adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, as well as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The participants called for the formulation of pro-poor and informal sector focused strategies to manage urban risks and improve resilience, recognizing that disasters and climate change disproportionately affect the poor and marginalised. They further encouraged the mainstreaming of disaster risk assessments into land-use policy development and implementation in urban and rural areas.
