A declaration which introduces 5 demands made by the children, adolescents and youth in the region of the Americas in order to promote and position the visible participation of children and youth in the development and implementation of policies in the field of disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and social risk. It recommends these demands to be included in the following areas: (i) participation; (ii) education; (iii) equity and accountability; and (iv) health, protection and social risk; and asks organizations in the region that work to ensure the effective exercise of rights of children, adolescents and youth including education, to take 8 associated commitments.
This statement was made at the Fourth Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas, held in Guayaquil, Ecuador on 27-29 May 2014.
