Mexico's earthquake early warning network

The Global Platform 2017 host Mexico shows how the country is meeting target G of the Sendai Framework, which promotes greater access to multi-hazard early warning systems.

Since its devastating earthquake of 1985, Mexico has established an efficient network of more than 8,200 alert systems spread countrywide that can now alert people about any tremor in less than 60 seconds.

Thanks to this system, exposed populations will have time to be evacuated from buildings, the collapse of which is the main killer when an earthquake strikes.
