Leading by example: women taking action for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in Vietnam

'Leading by Example: Women taking action for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in Vietnam' highlights the potential for women's leadership within global efforts to tackle climate change, by taking snapshots from a variety of projects across Vietnam. It offers 10 recommendations to governments and development actors for promoting women's leadership within climate change mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk reduction policies, programs and projects.

Vietnam is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Many communities are at high risk from the negative effects of climate change, extreme weather and natural hazards. From 2012 until 2015, seven different organisations worked together to implement community-based climate change mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk reduction projects, under the Community Based Climate Change Action Grant scheme, awarded by the Government of Australia. The projects under the Community Based Climate Change Action Grants recognized that unequal access to resources and opportunities means that climate change affects women and men differently. They found that when women as well as men were engaged as leaders in climate change efforts at the household, community and structural levels, the benefits were felt in many different ways.
