Oxfam supports community resilience in the South Caucasus

Since 2010 to protect people’s lives and livelihoods Oxfam has been running a regional disaster risk reduction programme in Armenia and Georgia.

From July 2014 to September 2015 Oxfam and local partner organisations (Bridge of Hope, Black Sea Eco Academy, Support to Communities and Rural Communities Development Agency, Fund Against Violation of Law) implemented the third phase of this participatory multi-hazard programme funded for 15 months by the European Commission, Department of Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.

In three regions: Adjara (Georgia), Tavush and Vayots Dzor (Armenia) Oxfam and partners implemented activities involving diverse community groups and individuals: men and women, children, youth and elder, governments, volunteers and people with special needs.

The film illustrates how the programme builds resilience of vulnerable communities and individuals to natural disasters in the South Caucasus and how it changes their life to be better prepared and protected and less exposed to disasters such as earthquakes, floods or landslides.
