India disaster report 2011
This report draws on lessons learnt from the reports disasters 2011 in India, such as cyclonic storms, heavy rains, floods, landslides, earthquakes, etc., reflecting a common concern in building disaster resilient communities and reducing human, social, economic and environmental losses due to natural hazards. It responds to the need to regularly re-evaluate what is working in the sector of disaster management in India, and to review and analyse the challenges faced and the emerging trends observed so that the future decisions are in the right direction.
It also provides an opportunity to formulate forward-looking policies pertaining to social development, economic growth, environmental quality and justice, in addition to other essential values that contribute to sustainability. The report is intended to stimulate improved data collection and research which can enable the gaps identified in the management of the disasters to be addresses in future.
