Climate change key messages
This paper presents some of the key messages that the Red Cross Red Crescent brought to the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The six messages call for: (i) climate adaptation and mitigation activities to go hand-in-hand with long-term investment in development to tackle increased disaster risk; (ii) increasing disaster response and preparedness at all levels – local to global; (iii) improving safety and resilience through early adaptation action; (iv) humanitarian organizations to focus on supporting local community adaptation and coping strategies; (v) public awareness and public education for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation; and (vi) IFRC and its 187 member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to be committed to bringing solutions to people at risk as per the organization’s Strategy 2020.
