International conference on the cryosphere of the hindu kush himalayas, Kathmandu, Nepal: conference and workshop report

Source(s):  International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)

This document reports on an event that discussed the most recent research on snow, glaciers, glacial hydrology, and capacity building in cryospheric research in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) in order to assess, mitigate, develop plans and install early warning systems for hazards such as avalanches, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and surges, among other uses.

The overall event brought together partners in regional member countries and top scholars and practitioners from across the globe to make significant contributions to strengthening the exchange of knowledge, enhancing regional cooperation for cryosphere monitoring, promoting regional efforts to better understand the cryosphere, and formulating the initial framework for setting up a regional hub and clearing house for cryosphere data and information.
