In response to the devastating tornadoes of April 2011, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley appointed 19 community, corporate and non-profit leaders from across the state to the Tornado Recovery Action Council of Alabama. The group conducted a comprehensive study of the storms and hosted seven community forums in devastated areas of the state. Research and citizen input was used to develop a report and 20 action-oriented recommendations to reduce damage and loss of life in future disasters.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
