Mission

ODI is an independent think tank with more than 230 staff, including researchers, communicators and specialist support staff. ODI provides high-quality research, policy advice, consultancy services and tailored training – bridging the gap between research and policy and using innovative communication to mobilise audiences.

Its mission is to inspire and inform policy and practice which lead to the reduction of poverty, the alleviation of suffering and the achievement of sustainable livelihoods in developing countries. It does this by locking together high-quality applied research, practical policy advice, and policy-focused dissemination and debate. It works with partners in the public and private sectors, in both developing and developed countries.

Disaster Reduction Goal

We investigate the concepts of resilience, disaster risk reduction and adaptation with an emphasis on understanding linkages with power, politics, economics and governance.

This includes:
•Leadership and strategic programming among international agencies for disaster resilience and adaptation
• Adaptation and resilience-building in the context of economic and sector development
• Ensuring coherence in the Post-2015 Policy Landscape
• Shaping all-risks approaches to programming
• Effective finance for risk reduction and adaptation

Policies and Programmes in DRR

ODI’s contribution to international debates on adaptation, disaster risk and resilience is aided by diverse expertise that has allowed us to benefit from and shape the trends detailed above. We now have a strong team of researchers on these topic areas, anchored in CEP, HPG, ADP and WPP.
