FOCUS’ ethical framework is based on that of its affiliate organisation, the Aga Khan Development Network. FOCUS’ efforts in humanitarian assistance represent an application of the social conscience of Islam and, in particular, the ethical values of compassion, care and concern for the poor and weak and the protection of the vulnerable in society. FOCUS units are located in six countries: Afghanistan, Canada, India, Pakistan, Europe (headquartered in the United Kingdom) and the United States.
FOCUS aims to provide disaster mitigation and preparedness programme in vulnerable communities. It also extends humanitarian relief and recovery following natural or man disasters.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
