Mission

WCSDA is committed to promoting sustainable city development and building liveable cities for humanity so as to deal with disasters and climate change in China and the world at large. WCSDA also provides opportunities for bilateral talks on city management, experience sharing and new technical exchanges for sustainable city development and works to promote world cities scientific development through the platform of “World Cities Scientific Development Forum”. The World Cities Scientific Development provides regularly platforms for sharing insights and experiences on various challenges faced by world cities sustainable development, including crisis management, emergency relief, disaster reduction, the building of liveable cities for humanity and the transforming of urban economic development pattern. The alliance also helps world people understand and respect the diversity of civilization as we look to build a harmonious and peaceful world.

Disaster Reduction Goal

National and international capacities have been constantly challenged by the growing magnitude and frequency of multiple problems including: public health emergencies, over-crowded transportation systems, growing vulnerabilities and risks for the poor, the severe impact of climate change and disasters, major environmental pollution and the risk of attacks such as on information systems. These problems threaten the sustainability of global socio-economic development and the situation will only worsen if more aggressive policies and measures are not soon put in place to address them. In recent years, sustainable city development has become a shared concern among different stakeholders with the accelerating global economic integration, information integration and urbanization and the growing interdependence between satellite cities, agglomeration economy and regional economy. At the global level, UNISDR is working to promote harmonious and sustainable cities that are resilient to disasters and the effects of climate change. World Cities Summits have been organized from Singapore to Seoul to search for solutions to the challenges faced by cities. More and more national and local governments - with the support of the international community and civil society - have intensified their efforts to address key urbanization issues, through legislation, policy, and innovation. New pathways are being opened, whether through new technology or new forms of multilateral cooperation, to improve urban environments, to better urban housing, to reduce energy consumption and pollution, to protect lives and properties from disasters, and to develop both rural and urban areas towards environment stewardship, low-carbon and ecology. As an emerging economy and the most populous country in the world, China is undergoing the urbanization process with an unprecedented speed and scale, but China is also exposed to unprecedented opportunities and challenges as with the developed world and other developing countries. China has been working with the international community to promote the idea of building a harmonious world featuring common prosperity and diversified cultures and calls on multilateral and multilevel talks to solve global issues in an innovative manner.
