At the opening ceremony of the meeting 'Experiences and Challenges to Reduce Seismic Risk in the Caribbean' experts emphasized the seismic risk in the region and talked about the human component of the problem. The importance of building codes, early warning systems, research, preparedness, capacity building and resilience were some of the topics discussed at the meeting.
