With the Rio+20 Conference approaching, Alula Berhe Kidani's article in Sudan Vision lists important focuses and programmes on the current climate change education and disaster risk reduction agenda, particularly highlighting the work of the UNESCO. The issues/programmes that the author mentions include mapping zones of inundiation risk (UNESCO's project on Preparedness for Flood Risk Reduction through Mapping and Assessing Risk and Management Options and Building Capacity in Lal Bakaiya Watershed, Nepal), disaster risk reduction education, tsunami early warning systems and protecting cultural heritage.
