Sri Lanka Disaster Management Ministry launches secured town planning programme

Colombo - The Disaster Management Ministry of Sri Lanka has allocated Rs. 8 billion for a programme to control floods in the capital and has launched a secured town planning programme aimed at minimizing disasters, reports ColomboPage.

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told ColomboPage that the monies will be used to clear canals, reconstruct the drainage system as well as for other measures to prevent floods in Colombo. Under the planning programme of secured towns, 15 towns have been selected as disaster free cities.
