Teachers Without Borders’ Emergency Education Program has launched PARSQUAKE, an initiative that brings earthquake education to the global Persian community.

Millions of people living in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan are highly vulnerable to earthquakes. With support from the PARSA Community Foundation, TWB is addressing this vulnerability by raising levels of earthquake awareness, education, and preparedness in these regions.

Led by Solmaz Mohadjer, TWB’s Director of Emergency Education, and Zach Adam, TWB's Emergency Education Fellow, the PARSQUAKE team is implementing an earthquake emergency education teacher training program in Tajikistan, as well as creating a network of Persian-speaking teachers and school administrators who will help students understand and respond to earthquakes. TWB has also appointed a PARSQUAKE Project Coordinator in Tajikistan, Mr. Orifjon Hojiboev, who will lead the effort locally.

“We are excited to be putting the final details on the earthquake education training workshop to be held this spring in Tajikistan and to have personnel working across many continents to help make Persian-speaking communities safer all around the world,” Mohadjer says.

TWB’s Teacher’s Guide to Earthquake Education has been translated into Russian by TWB members, and into Tajik courtesy of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Guide will soon be available in Dari and Farsi. The PARSQUAKE Project is seeking Persian-speaking translators fluent in English to assist with translation. Please send an email to solmaz@twb.org if you are able to contribute.
