Tajikistan is vulnerable to a wide range of disasters and climate change is increasing those risks. During recent winters the country has been subject to severe electricity and clean water shortages which, in turn, puts the wellbeing of thousands of people at risk. Right now we need your input, impact and expertise to build a better future across the region.

About the role

Leading an experienced team of 13, you’ll focus on making sure we’re positioned to respond to potential future disasters and development. That means implementing a disaster preparedness and response programme integrated with other programmes in water, public health and sanitation. Your skill at delivering the kind of far-reaching plans and strategies that make a real difference will make sure the region is best positioned for anything that comes its way. Setting objectives and ensuring they’re met in a consultative, participative, sensitive way, you’ll keep a close eye on budgets and ensure the appropriate financial controls are in place.

You’ll also help shape local level goals and effectively manage a team. And throughout, you’ll support fundraising efforts, contribute to lobby and advocacy issues and build solid working relationships.

What we are looking for

This is an influential role so it’s important that you have considerable programme coordination and community mobilisation experience. Previous exposure to disaster preparedness and a sound understanding of the region would also be useful. You’ll already have proved how effectively you can build and manage a team and how well you adapt to demanding situations. As you’ll face complex problems you’ll need to be able to analyse and simplify them for a wide audience.

The role requires fluency in English and ideally some knowledge of Tajik, Farsi or Russian.
