India: NDMA asks Punjab government to focus on preventive steps

National Disaster Management Authority has asked Punjab government to focus on preventive steps besides preparedness and response to meet any eventuality in case of any kind of disaster, reports the Economic Times.

NDMA member Kamal Kishore further underlined the need for strict adherence to building codes. He also said, 'the management of any disaster is not only government's job, everybody has to play a role in creating awareness besides having training to meet any kind of disaster thereby mitigating the sufferings of victims', and informed that to date, 1,300,000 students and 65,000 villagers have been trained in effective response.
